Jon Drummond

He's quick with the jokes, gags and gestures on the track that earned him the moniker Clown Prince of Track and Field. Journalists feed off his quotable quips. Fans and photographers alike eat up his affable antics like when he shows off his six-pack of abs and strikes a bare-chested pose.

Just as his muscles bulge like the Incredible Hulk, so can his persona on the track take a drastic Hulk-like change. This outwardly fun-loving goofball is as serious as a heart attack when it comes to competition.

A veteran on the track circuit, Jon has established a consistent career as one of America's top-performing sprinters. Jon has steadily earned a ranking in the top 10 in the U.S. for the last eight years in the 100-meters. He's been the go-to guy in the leadoff position for the U.S. 4x100-meter relay teams that brought home the gold (and tied the world record) at the 1993 World Championships, silver in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, gold again at the 1999 World Championships and yet another gold at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. During this past season at the 2003 US Outdoor Championships, Jon qualified for the World Championship team in the 100-meters for the first time. He was thrilled and trained his heart out for the upcoming World Championships. However during the quarterfinals, Jon was unfairly eliminated from the competition for a false start. Unable to run under protest, he unfortunately had to walk away from his dream and all his hard work.

Through his years on the professional track circuit, Jon has gained wisdom and maturity often noticed by newcomers who seek his advice. With the gift for gab, Jon is always willing to dish out a verbal helping of guidance and support.

Growing up the youngest of four children in Philadelphia, Jon developed a knack for entertainment at an early age and he continues to fulfill his interests in addition to track and field.

Following the footsteps of his beloved father, Jon is a minister and is often invited to preach at churches around the country. He delivered his first sermon at the precocious age of two. Jon can also carry a tune and has performed with the Grammy award winning and Billboard chart-topping gospel group Kirk Franklin and The Family.

Jon's life is rich and his many talents afford him much success and happiness. The role he's most proud of is that of husband and father and nothing inspires him more to want to bring home the gold.
